Cherinicole Resort is a classy yet affordable resort located in General Luna, Siargao, Surigao del norte. If you want to experience the life in an island and connect with nature, then Cherinicole Resort is definitely for you. It is just few steps away from the town center of General Luna and few minutes away from the popular surfing site, cloud 9. The pool is perfect for a swim under the stars. The resort also offers a nice beachfront; they offer sumptous meals at their restaurant. My favorite part is the sound of the waves from afar – they are music to my ears.

How To Get There:  The gateway of Siargao is Sayak Airport which is about an hour travel to General Luna. From Cebu, there are daily Cebu Pacific trips going to Sayak Airport. If you choose to travel by sea, you can take daily ferry trips in Surigao City going to Dapa.

Resort Amenities:

  • Aircoon/Non-Aircon Rooms
  • Pool
  • Restaurant
  • Beachfront

Siargao Island Hopping: Naked, Daku, and Guyam Islands

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Three Islands (Naked, Guyam, and Daku) are Siargao’s little jewels that visitors must visit. Spending a day would be perfect for these three treasures. It is located in General Luna, Siargao. They are just few minutes from General Luna via motorized boat.

How To Get There: From Cebu by plane – There is daily flight from Cebu to Siargao via Cebu Pacific Air. Travel time is around 45 mins to 1 hour depending on the weather condition. From Sayak Airport, you can take a van or single motorcycle going to your respective accommodation. I suggest that you stay in General Luna town. From Cebu by Boat – Take the ship going to Surigao (check on Cokaliong Shipping Schedules on Shipping Schedule Tab). It would take 10 to 12 hours travel time; and from Surigao take the boat going to Dapa, Siargao. There are daily schedules going to Dapa via various boat and fast craft operators. In going to the islands, you can charter a boat for island hopping that would range to 1,000 to 2,000 for a day, depending on the number of visitors. To book a boat and siargao tour, you can contact our guide. His name is Longlong (local name for “Boy”). You can reach him through mobile numbers: +639466487954 or +639184738138.

Naked Island  Naked Island is technically a sand bar. You cannot hardly see it from afar, but once you get close to it, you would probably say the same thing I said, “wow!”

Daku Island       Daku Island is the largest island among the three. Its land area might be the reason behind its name – “Daku” which means big. You can rent a cottage and can even spend a night on this island. It is the only inhabited island among the three.

Guyam Island  Guyam Island is an island as small as Naked Island but unlike naked it has coconut trees and other plants existing on the island.

Once you decide to travel Siargao, make sure that you have included these three jewels in your bucket list. It would be fun spending a day hopping on these treasures – Sun bathing on Naked Island, playing beach volleyball and have your meal in a cottage on Daku Island, and have your siesta on Guyam Island. – that would be quite of an experience.

Until then! Keep on using that happy feet, wanderer!

Malapascua Island: A Drop of Heaven on Earth

Malapascua is an island paradise located in the northernmost part of Cebu. It is heaven to those who love diving, and playground to those who love the beach.  Bounty Beach, the tourist hotspot of the island, offers wide range of beachfront accommodation, but compared to Bantayan and Camotes Island, Malapascua has higher rates and dining is costly, so if you are planning to visit the place, you should prepare enough budget.

How To Get There

From Cebu City: Take the Northbound buses found in North Bus Terminal (preferably Ceres Bus) Aircon bus fare is around 170 Php from Cebu to Maya Port (wharf going to Malapascua).  Take the regular motorbanca going to Malapascua; fare is around 80 php per person. (Beware of special trip scam where other people would persuade you to pay for higher price). You can then take a walk to your respective accommodations upon arrival in Malapascua or you can just hire motorcycle.

Hiltey’s Hideout

We stayed in Cocobana. Personally, my experience in Cocobana is nice.  Beachfront is great. Accommodation is just fine.  It is just adjacent to Malapascua Wharf.

Things To Do/Where To Visit:

Swimming and Snorkeling:

Coral Garden

Japanese Shipwreck

Dakit-dakit Islet Table Corals

Los Bamboos

Spend some time sitting and chatting in los bamboos sandbar.  It is like a public plaza for the locals here.  A lot of locals spend their siesta and leisure time in los bamboos.

The Lighthouse

From the fantastic water adventures to the inland tour, all we have to spend is just a thousand bux – all in! Thanks to our friendly guide, Ronnie who happens to also have a motorbike that is why he went an extra mile and gave us an inland tour in los bamboos and the lighthouse. If you are interested in getting his number, it is 09491810903. Just negotiate with him and he will definitely give you a good deal.

Where To Eat

Ging-Ging’s   Ging-ging’s is the most popular and the cheapest restaurant in the island. The food is great so you do not have to worry if you are concerned with the quality of the food being served.

Here are some dishes we ordered:   Sweet and Sour Fish (Escabeche)

 Chopsuey

 Chicken Curry

Fried Chicken

 Carbonara

We spent most of our meals here in Ging-ging’s because we just loved their food.

La Isla Bonita Restaurant

Daya Barbecue

If you are on a tight budget then look for this barbecue place.  The food is not the great but you can really save.  It is really hard to find affordable food while you are in a very expensive island.

We really fell in love with the beauty of Malapascua. The only pain the butt (for my girlfriend) are the big waves that keeps on hitting our boat crossing Malapascua and back to Maya; otherwise, all is well. Here are some images we took while discovering this Island Paradise:

We are surely coming back someday but this time we will make sure that the weather condition is perfect.  Malapascua is really a drop of heaven on earth. So if you are planning to discover Philippine’s Beaches, then never miss Malapascua Island!

Karancho Beach Resort

Karancho Beach is a family beach resort located in Maribago, Lapu-lapu City.  It is one of the white beaches that offers reasonable prices.  Among the three resorts within the area (Bluewater, White Sands, Karancho), Karancho is the cheapest so people with tight budgets will always choose Karancho beach.

How To Get There:  From Cebu City proper, if you are commuting, you can take a jeep bound for Mandaue (Highway Seno or Parkmall), and then take another jeep/multicab bound for Maribago.  It would take around 45 minutes travel from Mandaue, lesser if you would take a taxicab.  The resort is pretty much accessible from the international airport.

Amenities:  This resort has nothing much to offer when talking about the amenities, but the beach is good enough for the family. The resort has a great landscape.  These are the few things you can find in the resort:

Beach Volleyball

Pets Allowed   This is a pet-friendly resort, so you can bring your cute little ones.

White Sand Beach

Bancas

Beach View

Karancho would be a good place to spend a day with your family.  Check the weather and your calendar for the tide, make sure tide is around 1.6 to 2.0 during daytime to enjoy swimming.

Astonishing Alcoy’s Tingko White Beach

Tingko Beach is located in Daanlungsod, Alcoy, Cebu.  It is about 2 to 3 hours travel from Cebu City going down south.  Its white sand and clear water would really give you a great swimming experience; and the best part is….. the beach is all yours for FREE! Yeah, you heard it right!, the beach has no any entrance fees. You will just pay for the cottages or the tables.

How To Get There:  From Cebu City, you can take the bus going to Liloan, Santander via Oslob at the South Bus Terminal. You also have the option to take the v-hire in One Citilink Terminal.  But I would strongly recommend to choose Ceres Bus Liner as they are safer and more convenient to ride. Tell the steward to drop you off in Tingko Beach.  Do not worry, the beach is just along the highway so it is very easy to locate.  The best landmark is Edward’s Place.

Where To Stay:    The safest and most ideal place to stay in Tingko Beach is Edward’s Place.  It is more convenient because they have their own mini mart where you could buy grocery items, and they could also cook food for you for just a small tip.  About the rooms, they are perfect for families, friends, or honeymooners.  You could even occupy all rooms for team-buildings at lesser cost compared to other resorts within the vicinity.  Edward’s Place is just across the white sand beach.

Exterior View of the Rooms:

Convenience Store and Front Office

Restaurant/Dining Area and Videoke Bar   Note: You can use the Videoke for only 5 Php per 2 songs.

Free Use of the Floating Cottage (For Edward’s Place Guests)

This is the view of the whole place   Took this shot from the beach side.

Actually, we did not rent a room in Edward’s Place for this visit because we just visited the place for just a few hours from our trek in Osmena Peak, but Sir Edward himself treated us as valued guests for using their washroom with a minimal fee of only 10 Php.  He is very entertaining and it is convenient and comfortable spending the rest of our time in his place.  That is why I decided to feature his place in my blog and surely, I will be choosing to stay with Sir Edward when we visit Tingko in the near future and I would strongly suggest his place when visiting Tingko Beach.

Here is Edward Place’s Contact Number:

The Beach:

So what are you waiting for? Hit the Road now!  Tingko is one good stop for a road trip going southside.

A Day or Two would be great to spend at the beach!
